How often should I restring my instrument? |
Guitar strings typically have 8 hours of playing time before they should be changed. If you play your guitar regularly, you should not go more than 3 months before changing strings. If you don’t play your guitar regularly, you can go up to 6 months. Old strings can damage your guitar.
|
Should I be humidifying my instrument? |
Keep a humidity gauge in the room where you store your instruments Most wood instruments are manufactured at around 40-50% humidity. During a Sault summer, it may not be necessary to run a humidifier. But during the winter, you will damage your instrument if you do not keep the moisture up.
|
How often should I clean my horn? |
Wind instruments are a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus. If you have a brass instrument, you can clean with Herco Spitballs after playing, and have a repair shop flush your horn once a year. Swab your woodwind instrument with a pad-guard and let it dry in the open air every time you play, and have it flushed every other year.
